Quito Old Town and Middle of the World Tour
We begin our day with a visit of one of the most beautiful parts of Quito – The Historic Old Town, located in the center of Quito. The name itself resonates with wonder and romances! Designated by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage Site, this city is regarded as the most beautiful and stylish one in the Andes.
Our next stop is The Panecillo (the little bread loaf), rising over the southern edge of the old town and crowned by a magnificent 30-m (98-ft) high statue of the Virgen of Quito. A long flight of steps leads to the summit. Here Quito presents itself, spread out like a blanket of pearl white miniature houses enclosed by green hills.
In the afternoon, our guide will take you to the Equator! Take your picture at the Mitad del Mundo as you stand simultaneously in both the Southern and the Northern Hemispheres. Learn about the rich culture of Ecuador with a visit to the equator museum. During our stop at Museum Intiyan, you can see for yourself the uniqueness of this midpoint. Watch the water swirl down the drain clockwise and counter-clockwise, or defy gravity by balancing an egg on the tip of a nail.

Visiting ¨La mitad del mundo¨
Itinerary
We will start with a panoramic route among the banking and financial areas, shopping malls, and La Mariscal neighbourhood, where most of the hotels are located.
We will continue towards the historical center of the city where the following attractions will be visited: “El Panecillo”, a beautiful place from where you will admire the colonial and modern Quito; San Francisco and La Basilica churches; and Plaza de la Independencia (Independence square). We will walk through the colonial streets and visit the Cathedral, the Government’s Palace, and La Compañía Church, where adornments and gold altars can be appreciated.
We will continue to the northern part of the city heading up to the “Middle of the World City” where we will observe the monument that divides the Northern from the Southern Hemisphere. It was built during the 17th century when a French Expedition defined the precise location of the equatorial line. In the end, you will have an optional visit either to Intiñan or Ethnographic Museum.

We enjoyed the tour because we got to taste Bizcochos at the place where they are made, we went to Lago de San Pablo, the Otavalo market, Cotacachi and hiked a bit in Cuicocha to see the beautiful lake! Working with this company has been a pleasure. Christina was responsive, helpful, thoughtful, accommodating and extremely pleasant to work with. Waita Lodge is THE PLACE TO STAY in the Amazon. Owned and operated by local Ecuadorians, you get their true experience, and with passion, of the Amazon from people with an authentic love and care for the local community and environment of the Amazon. The food was amazing, meals prepared beautifully, service attentive and the environment homey. Portion of the profits go to advocacy efforts in the local communities of the Amazon.

Very good organization; always fast communication/response by Pablo/EcuaTraveling. The program took us to places and people we would not have selected/visited and that made it unique. The acclimatization tour @ Iliniza Norte was a great choice!
